The installation of Akseli Leinosen’s artwork “The light that never goes out”, selected for the Satakunnankatu roundabout, is currently underway. The work will be installed during the night 26.5.–28.5. The entire composition formed by the artwork and the surface structures of the roundabout will be completed by the beginning of August.

Viktor Jansson’s Knock out replaces Unto Hietanen’s Kalapoika sculpture, which was destroyed in Tampere in October 2023. Depicting two boys riding on fish, Knock out was installed in Viinikka’s Lampipuisto park, on the former site of Kalapoika, on May 21, 2025.

Sculptor Maria Stereo’s work Dilemma has been selected as the 2025 summer sculpture at Tammerlampi. True to Stereo’s signature style, the piece is composed of broken ceramic dishes and tiles. Its influences include the ornate gilded gate of Louis XIV – the Sun King – at the Palace of Versailles, as well as the joyful, eye-catching aesthetics of circuses and carnivals.

On 21 November 2023, the proposal to amend the local detailed plan for the Tampere Art Museum was approved for display in the municipal board. The change in the local detailed plan concerns the areas of the Tampere Art Museum and the Amuri Museum of Historic Housing and their surroundings. The supplementary construction proposed to the south of Pirkankatu and along Puutarhakatu has been abandoned.

A solo exhibition of the work of the Tampere-based media artist Charles Sandison will open in the basement gallery of Tampere Art Museum next February. Sandison (b. 1969 in England) is one of the internationally best-known artists in Finland. His art has been described as “poetry of light”.

Visual artist Tuomo Rosenlund and author Mika Hannula collaborate in the joint exhibition Urban Utopia merging visual and verbal storytelling. The Light Gallery is part of the Tampere Festival of Light programme and is produced by the Tampere Art Museum.

There are two exhibitions opening at the Tampere Art Museum on Saturday 17.6.2023. Eetu Huhtala's oeuvre consists of mechanical and large-scale metal sculptures and other multisensory works. Cruel Radiance, the 2023 edition of the Backlight festival, examines the evidential aspects of matter through photography and the moving image.
